What is Mafia

Mafia is a social deduction party game. A small Mafia team knows each other and acts at night, while the town does not know who is who and can rely only on conversation: speeches, questions, nominations and votes. The Mafia want to survive until they match the town in numbers; the town wants to find every black player first.

The winner is not the one who got a lucky card but the one who speaks more convincingly and listens more carefully. That is why Mafia works so well over video: you see facial expressions, you hear the intonation, and a bluff works just as it does at a real table.

Two modes: Classic and City Mafia

Classic Mafia is the default and competitive mode. Ten players: the Don, two Mafia, the Sheriff and six Civilians. The night is short: 7 seconds for the shot, which hits only if every living Mafia member picks the same target, then 7 seconds for the Don and Sheriff checks. Games give coins and XP, and at a full table of ten accounts also rating points that never reset.

City Mafia is a lighter, more relaxed format for 12 players. The Don, two Mafia and five Civilians are joined by a Doctor, a Seductress and a Maniac who plays only for himself, and the Commissioner replaces the Sheriff. The night goes step by step with a timer for each role, and the table chooses the length of a day speech. City Mafia gives no coins, XP or rating.

How a game goes

First everyone takes one face-down role card within 15 seconds — cameras and microphones are off meanwhile, because a reaction to your own card gives the role away. In Classic the first night is a 60-second Mafia meeting with no shot and no checks.

Then comes the day: each living player speaks for 60 seconds in turn and may nominate one player for the vote. The eliminated player gives a farewell speech, then night falls again. The game goes on until the town removes the whole Mafia or the Mafia match the town in numbers. Three rounds in a row without an elimination end in a draw. Everyone’s role is revealed at the end.

Playing Mafia over webcam

Everyone at the table sees each other on video: player tiles are arranged by seat number, like chairs around a real table. Only the current speaker talks — the server mutes everyone else, so nobody interrupts or prompts. At night the cameras follow the phase rules: the town sees nothing, and during the meeting the Mafia see only each other.

The camera is the main tool both for bluffing and for catching a bluff. You notice who looked away when nominated, who is too calm during the vote and who smiled at the wrong moment. That is why the fair-play rules ask for the camera and microphone to be on during a game, with the player’s face in frame. If your connection drops, reconnecting brings you back to the same seat.

How to start playing on Omerta

Sign in with email or Telegram. In the table list you can join an open table or create your own: Create → Mafia. A table can be private with a password, and you can send your friends a link. The game starts by itself as soon as every seat is taken. The interface follows your browser language, so English-speaking players see it in English.

Before the start the table creator sets the rules: closed or open voting, a Mafia meeting with audio or a silent one, first-day elimination options, automatic card deal and whether spectators are allowed. For tournaments and club nights the creator can also take a separate seat as a live host who sees every role and manages fouls and pauses.

Rating and statistics

Everyone starts with 1000 rating points, and the rating does not reset: points carry over from game to game. Only complete Classic games with ten account holders at the table count — tables with guests or bots do not. Points are calculated by team, Elo-style: beating stronger opponents gives more, losing to them costs less. Your profile also keeps your game history and win rates by role.

Create a room and send the link to your friends — the deal starts as soon as everyone is seated.
